FIVE THINGS THAT KEEP ME SANE

Sometimes life can be tough and we need to take a step back to get ourselves together. With a full time job, a course, and a blog to run, I often catch myself breakdown to a point where I'm unmotivated and can't be bothered to do anything! There comes creative block which happens when I'm stressed out.
I have been good recently with coping up with it. After years, I think I finally found five ways where I could combat the feeling of being blue. I hope it helps not only me but other people as well that is going through the same thing!

Go for a walk/hike. I can tell you this make a huge difference internally. It instantly refreshes our mind/body/ and soul. It also lets out all the anxiety and stress we feel after a long day. Being in touch with nature does wonders. Go try it!

Read a great book. I'm personally not a reader myself, but I do enjoy reading self-help books. I feel inspired reading how people overcome their struggles. I also love to learn about tips and tricks on how to live a positive life. Believe me, it is easy to say how to be positive but it actually takes time to put it to action! Take it gradually but surely. One great book I would highly recommend is called 'Don't Sweat The Small Stuff' which is a great everyday inspiration to not take little things affect our daily lives.

Music is therapy. I really believe on how music can affect our everyday life. Music can vary depending on what mood you're in. Personally I enjoy listening to acoustic music. It in tunes with my emotions and I can totally relate with the lyrics. It totally relaxes my mind and keeps me in a positive mind.

Don't talk about work or problems with friends. Venting out with friends can be one thing but doing fun things with them is another! Talking about things that bothers you will not only trigger negativity but it will not give you peace of mind for the day. So instead, talk about life long plans, talk about other things that brings happiness. Your friends can be outlets but they can also be a source of fun things!

Be grateful. This is one of the most important things people forget to recognise. Being grateful should not be a task, it should be a feeling that we genuinely feel. The way I do it is to write everything that I'm grateful for in a journal. So when tough times come or when I go back to being negative, I look back and read the things that made a great impact in my life.

These are the things that works for me in terms of staying sane, keeping on track, and live life positively! Also surround yourself with people who can help you live a positive life, support you all the way and not bring you down.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Hey Carmela,

Thanks for sharing these great tips on keeping sane in stressful times! I totally agree that getting out for a walk is a great way to de-stress. I actually find the Serenity Prayer really helps me, thinking about accepting the things I can't change and having the courage to change the things I can. I say it to myself almost every day! I've also just started colouring in, which although I wouldn't do if I were feeling stressed, is a really nice way to switch off and be offline for a while.

    1. You're welcome. Glad that you find it useful. My mum swears by Serenity Book! I do keep a journal myself and write the things I'm grateful for everyday. May it be from food, to work, to getting/giving a complement etc. It feels good to acknowledge the good deed rather than spend more time thinking too much about things that don't even matter. And yes! I agree with staying away from social media and internet even just for half a day!

  2. This is such great advice and I never really thought about not venting to friends - mostly because I usually do! I am going to start having more fun and less venting. Also totally agree music is great for the soul!
