When A City Falls (Documentary)

Yesterday, (February 22, 2012) marks the anniversary of the devastating Christchurch earthquake. The kiwis were not to celebrate but remember the tragedy and pay respect to the heroes and victims of the quake. It is based on a documentary film of unseen footage of that day where 185 people died. It is hard to believe how the residents managed to recover after loosing pretty much everything. As they say "life moves on and so are we".

Christchurch was once the most amazing part of New Zealand which has a large green pastures and was considered  the capital and the largest city of New Zealand. Its London like appearance is what attracted the tourists. But everything fell apart when a 6.1 magnitude struck the CBD at midday. After that huge quake the city shakes every now then which sometimes hits up to 5+ magnitude or little quakes. Evacuation was suggested but residents find it hard to leave their destroyed properties/ businesses which is all that they have left. I could imagine the anguish and devastation they have felt.

The once beautiful city, looks like this now

Rescuers from Japan, China, and New Zealand came to dig out possible alive people under the heavy concretes and debris.

The before and aftermath of the earthquake.

I decided to blog about this after seeing the documentary film titled When A City Falls on TV3. This is my way to commemorate the lost lives and for the recovery of the city. Being in this kind of situation is hard but courage and hope is what brings the people around. This also proves that anything can happen anytime and anywhere. So lets enjoy every bit and pieces we have and live life to the fullest. Be thankful.

07/01-07/04 AUCKLAND

And finally to our last stop, Auckland! i think this is the main place that we all wanted to go. It is about 4hour drive from Rotorua (correct me if I'm wrong). Tall buildings are blocking the sun and the road is not flat at all which I hate.

You can see the harbour from our hotel room.
That night we had drinks in the hotel room and get ready to go clubbing. One of my good friend is in Auckland came over and I'm so happy to see her. Haven't seen each other for almost 2 years!

We playing cards and whoever lose will skull one can of pulse. I look like a guy in this photo LOL.

Obviously we head off tipsy to the clubs and man it was a very long walk from our hotel! Note to self: next time you want to go out in Auckland, better pick a place and never bar hop because it takes hours to get to next club HAHAHA. I'm a bit exaggerating but its true! It was a good night.
