Six Brushes You Need For Smokey Eye + EXTRAS

Tools are one of the essentials to achieve that perfect smokey eye. There are so many makeup mistakes I have done in the past and one was trying to ignore the importance of makeup brushes. There was time that I would just use my fingers to blend the eyeshadow, it works but not to the full extent. I'm no professional makeup artist what so ever, but based on years of learning about makeup and applying them on regular basis, I get to figure which one works best. Of course with the big help from youtube tutorials and reviews!

In picking makeup brushes, there are two types to choose from - synthetic or natural. Both brushes are great but I would go for synthetic brushes. Just because it is so much easier to wash, does not shed as much, and you can also use it for both dry or wet eyeshadow application! It all comes down to personal preference really.

Blending is a crucial step for a perfect smokey eye! Blending brushes are always great for smoked out look and also for a light wash of color for day time. The fluffier the better for overall blending, small tapered brush for more precise blending on the crease, and a medium size ones for outer v. This could be different for other people, but for me having these type of brushes works well. You don't have to have expensive brushes, as long as you have the shape/softness of the bristles, you're good to go. Art brushes can also be use in eyeshadow application and it's affordable too!

These brushes are not necessary but its good to have them laying around for days when you don't want to get your fingers dirty. A good pencil brush for smudging, or packing color in the outer v, flat shader brush for highlighting and packing on colors on the lids, and an angled flat brush that can be used for both purposes.

If you want to be more fancy, here are a couple extras you can have. Detailing brush is always good to have when you want to pack glitter, highlight the inner corners precisely or even for lip or liner application. An accent brush is great for smudging the lower lash line. And yes you have to have an eyebrow brush because a good smokey is unfinished unless your brows are well defined.

I hope this post is helpful for those who are starting to get into makeup.

Thanks for stopping by!
