The problem of renting a space is that you have very limited ideas on how you can personalize your own space. This mainly occurs in apartments with strict landlords, so you have to be creative and come up with a solution that won't do any harm on the existing space. Lately, I have been having problems on finding furnitures and decors I can put into our new flat. Since we are just starting to settle in, me and my boyfriend are trying to take things slow and really think of what could be the best thing that we could keep and maybe reconstruct in the future when the look is getting boring. After days of researching one solution I found is to buy recycled materials where you can do your magic on it and will look good. Plus it will save you more money! Here are some DIY tips I found online:
Coloured paint swatches as a wall art. This gives a room a total different feel.
DIY wall art. Painted canvas and felt paper formed into a big 3D flower. This is ideal display for bathroom, bedroom, living room.
Old coffee table turned into chic bench. Just take the top of and cover it with foam and your favorite patterned fabric of choice. There you have a new contemporary bench!
Old frames from second hand shops are never a waste. Repaint the frames depending on the color/ motif you want then voila! You can also add hooks around the frame and strings to hang your photo booth photos.
You don't need to spend hundreds of dollars to get a bed with headboard. Simply find an old sheet, curtain, or fabric and hang it on the wall. It will give you a chic and boho type of artwork. You may consider old shutters, old doors as your headboard. Simply paint over it and there you have it!
Never ever throw away empty pasta bottles or any kind of sauce bottles because you can always put them into use. Using acrylic paint or spray paint to give the look that you want.
Wall decors don't have to be expensive! Use a foam board or an illustration board, cut it into size of square you want, in this case 12cm x 12cm. Then, cover it with scrapbook paper or any patterned paper / fabric you want. You can also use news paper! Easy and cheap.
As we all know curtains can be a lot expensive especially if we are after the patterned, or silk type of fabric. In this case, you can be very innovative and use table cloth as a curtain. It is less expensive and very stylish. You can also use old blanket or sheets depending on what you want.
Metal trays can be use as a magnet board other than serving food. Vintage looking metal trays have this baroque moldings around that can be perfect as a wall decor.
Trying to customize your old lamp shade? Well then, you can use fabric scraps, ribbons, DIY paper pattern in your shade. There is so much freedom on being creative!
Old wine bottles can still be classy in any other way. To make it more chic and up to date, simply paint over it. If you want to achieve the patterned look, use rubber band or tape to create your pattern. If you want a sea glass effect, add PVA glue into your paint.
There you have it. Simple things to make your place your own. Hope this can be a good help for those of you who are having trouble in customizing your own space. Have a good read :)
